We can do more by working together.

There are so many wonderful people in the world. We like to partner and work with as many of them as we can!

Here are some of the amazing groups we work with to try to solve some of the big problems in the work. We’re proud to call them our partners!

Soles4Souls

At Deckers, we are committed to the responsible disposal of shoes, which is why we partner with Soles4Souls, a nonprofit organization that is changing the world with each pair of shoes donated.

To put shoes on the feet of those in need, Soles4Souls collects new, used and unwanted shoes and distributes them to over 60 countries around the world. To date, Soles4Souls has collected and distributed over three million pairs of shoes to those in need.

We began our partnership with Soles4Souls in March of 2007 when we held a local community drive that brought in over 30,000 pairs of shoes from the Santa Barbara region. Since then, Deckers’ portfolio of brands has donated over 100,000 pairs of shoes to the organization.

The Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, UC Santa Barbara

Deckers Outdoor Corporation has developed a partnership with the Bren School, where we work with graduate students obtaining their Masters degree in Environmental Science.

The Bren School’s uncommon integration of science, management, law, economics and policy as part of an interdisciplinary approach to environmental problem solving has earned it a reputation as one of the top environmental graduate schools in the nation.

The Bren School pursues its research and education-based mission at Bren Hall, a cutting-edge structure that has been recognized as the “greenest” laboratory facility in the United States with LEED certification.

Conservation Alliance

Deckers is a member of Conservation Alliance and contributes to their organization by donating money and volunteer time. The Conservation Alliance is a group of outdoor industry companies that disburses its collective annual membership dues to grassroots environmental organizations. Deckers directs our funding to community-based campaigns to protect threatened wild habitat, preferably where outdoor enthusiasts recreate.

Each year, our employees participate in a volunteer event – we call it the Backyard Collective. We volunteer alongside other local Conservation Alliance member organizations to help our local environment. In the past, we’ve cleaned up locations in local rivers and mountains…and we’re looking forward to future events!

Outdoor Industry Association (OIA)

Deckers is a member of the OIA and participates in the Sustainability Working Group (SWG). The SWG was formed in 2007 (then the Eco Working Group – EWG) to explore the issues of environmental sustainability as related to the outdoor industry. The SWG consists of more than 100 outdoor businesses whose first accomplishment was collaboratively developing the industry’s first environmental assessment tool: the Eco Index.  The second version of the Eco Index, the Apparel Tool, has now been developed in conjunction with the Sustainable Apparel Coalition and is being pilot tested through January 2012.

Environmental Defense Center (EDC)

At Deckers, we believe it’s important to preserve and protect the natural environments that surround where we live and work. That’s why we support the Environmental Defense Center, a nonprofit that works to preserve open space, ensure clean air and water, and protect marine life and wildlife near our central California headquarters. In 2012, our Director of Corporate Responsibility, Mark Heintz, joined the EDC board, where he helps the nonprofit advance its mission through community outreach, fundraising, and project review.

Wool Working Group (WWG)

The Wool Working Group is a collaboration of companies that are seeking to better understanding the impacts of and improve transparency and traceability of wool production along the worldwide supply chain. To date, the WWG has focused on animal husbandry practices of sheep, with the primary objective of engaging stakeholders to find alternatives to the practice of surgical mulesing in Australia.

Leather Working Group (LWG)

Deckers is a member of the Leather Working Group (LWG), an industry organization that developed and maintains a rating system and certification program for environmental performance in tanneries. Our goal is to increase the percentage of LWG certified leather and hides in our products and supply chain.
