Deckers’ culture encourages creativity. Employees are rewarded for thinking outside the box and are given the opportunity within the organization to learn and grow both professionally and personally. In an environment that feels more like family than work; the doors are always open for all employee to explore opportunities to learn and grow.
Giving Beyond
Deckers supports many charitable organizations, with focus on supporting broad based environmental and conservation causes, programs that encourage kids’ access to outdoor environments and fun activities, kids’ educational programs, and many local organizations in need.
It is our philosophy to make every dollar donated count by actively and responsibly making donations directly to organizations, thus avoiding any unnecessary “middle man” administrative costs. We seriously consider who we donate monies to and evaluate our list constantly. As a guideline, we aim to donate to organizations that spend less than 10% in administrative costs. In addition, we look to Charity Navigator, which deems charitable organizations responsible based on several criteria, administrative costs being one of them. Examples of organizations we support are The Dream Foundation, The Santa Barbara Scholarship Foundation, Conservation Alliance and Waterkeeper Alliance.
Hybrid Vehicle Donation
In addition to our charitable giving, Deckers also honors our employees who strive to help the environment. If a Deckers’ employee purchases a hybrid vehicle, Deckers will donate $1,000 on their behalf to the charity of their choice.
Employee of the Quarter
Deckers has hundreds of great employees and each quarter we take the time to call out and honor especially outstanding individuals for their contributions to the company. This award recognizes and rewards performance that goes above and beyond expected performance. The recipients of the award provide exceptional internal or external customer service within or outside the organization, and have helped contribute to the overall success of the company through their exceptional communications, actions, and efforts. Their individual contributions demonstrate that every employee can have an influence in helping the company achieve quarterly goals and in creating a customer focused organization. When our employees receive the Employee of the Quarter award, Deckers donates $500 in their honor to the charitable organization of their choice.
Matching Donations
Deckers encourage and supports employees’ generosity by matching employees’ charitable donations dollar-for-dollar up to $1,000 every year.
Employee Volunteer Program
We encourage all employees to give of their time, in addition to, or in place of, financial gifts. Our Volunteer Newsletter each month highlights opportunities for volunteering at various organizations throughout our community. Deckers gives non-profits a $1,000 grant every time our employees log 40 hours of volunteer time for a certain charity.
The Day to Day
Deckers is committed to rewarding hard work, honesty, and loyalty. This is shown through several programs that are part of our normal course of doing business:
- Employee of the Quarter award to acknowledge outstanding accomplishment in our employees,
- Incentive programs that award people at all levels of the company for hard work and accomplishment, and
- Training programs to improve skill levels of employees based on identified and desired competencies in our people.
In addition, Deckers also provides services at our Goleta, California offices that help to free up employees from running errands after work or during their lunch break. Services like car washes, dry cleaning, massage therapy, a fresh produce truck, and a coffee service with the use of reusable mugs are available to everyone. There is even a fleet of bikes at the ready for a quick trip to the beach (less than a mile away!).

Deckers is the proud recipient of a spot on the 2008 and 2009 Outside Magazine’s Best Places to Work list. This survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best employers in the country that not only create a great work environment but also promote an environmentally friendly business process and create a work-outdoor life balance for employees. Along with this achievement, Deckers was also awarded Company of the Year by Footwear Plus and Footwear News Magazines (footwear trade publications) and ranked number 11 on Forbes 200 Best Small Companies list at the close of 2008.
