Product Creation
Throughout the Deckers’ brands there are a variety of key areas in our product design, manufacturing, and packaging that are given special focus in order to minimize our environmental footprint, maximize usage, and ensure the production of long lasting footwear. Below are the areas in which we have created change across all Deckers’ brands:
- We’ve reduced waste by minimizing cutting losses for sheepskin and leather materials,
- We work with our factories to maximize usage of rejected materials so that waste is reduced,
- In our production, we’ve switched to water based cements where possible and are actively seeking the overall reduction of cement usage,
- Wherever possible, we use recycled and bio-degradable plastics in packaging.
- Our hangtags and boxes are printed with soy based inks,
- Shoe hangers are made from PLA based or recyclable plastics, and
- We’re in the process of phasing out silica packets in all packaging.

Factories
Deckers strives to work only with material suppliers located close to our shoe factories and have made a conscious effort to reduce the environmental footprint of our factories. By working with these suppliers, we are able to minimize transport, speed up lead times, and work within the local communities.
Suppliers are required to meet our Ethical Supply Chain (ESC) Guidelines and adhere to our Restricted Substances policy. All factories are subject to monitoring of their compliance by the dedicated team of professionals in our China office, and all factories participate in our process to identify the root causes of compliance issues and to develop remediation plans.
