EFFORTS AND INITIATIVES

Making a difference with everything we do

We recognize our unique position as a multi-billion dollar company born of humble beginnings. We also believe in operating our business with transparency. That’s why we launched our Corporate Responsibility Program in 2010. While we have a duty to our stakeholders to exceed expectations, we recognize that we need to continue to grow in a way that is considerate of the environment, our employees, and our surrounding communities.

Ethical sourcing and supply chain

As a company who truly values its employees, Deckers strives to do its part to ensure workers all over the globe are treated fairly and are able to conduct their work in a safe environment. We respect internationally recognized human rights and environmental standards and place them at the core of our day-to-day business practices.

As a prerequisite to doing business with Deckers, we require all independent manufacturers, suppliers, agents, and licenses to complete our rigorous Annual Compliance Training. We recognize that simply signing a certification and completing a training is not enough to ensure compliance. That’s why our Ethical Supply Chain and Restricted Substances teams go beyond simply monitoring factories and suppliers—they drive the ongoing improvement of overall working conditions. The result is a set of trusted factories and suppliers who operate efficient, safe and ethical environments that adhere to our robust compliance standards and produce safe products for all of our consumers.

Animal welfare

We take great care to source sheepskin and leather that meet our high standards for quality, environmental impact, and animal welfare. We believe that no sheep should ever be raised for their sheepskin alone. We require all suppliers to practice humane animal treatment and certify their compliance with our Animal Welfare Policy on an annual basis.

Environment

Deckers Brands’ roots are grounded in the outdoors. We gladly support the protection of the outdoors through charitable giving and corporate volunteer efforts focused on conservation. As a producer of footwear and apparel, we also realize our manufacturing affects the environment that our company and communities love and enjoy. We recognize that we have a responsibility to implement operational efficiencies to benefit the environment now, and for future generations to come.

That’s why we pay close attention to our operations, and when possible, make choices that consume fewer natural resources and leave a lighter footprint. Some of the initiatives we’ve implemented include tracking the energy usage of some of our facilities and manufacturing partners; measuring the emissions of our inbound and outbound shipping carriers; executing water use and waste reduction plans at our corporate offices; monitoring and training our partners on the use of Restricted Substances and associated reduction efforts, and implementing returned and post-consumer shoe repurposing partnerships.

We’re constantly looking for new, innovative ways to reduce our overall environmental impact.
